Happy New Year everyone!
Ours was quiet as my daughter and son-in-law
and their dog had gone back to Phoenix. If I thought I was going to
sleep the night through I was quickly disavowed of that thought as it
seemed like the whole neighborhood was setting off fireworks a midnight.
Oh well, I shouldn’t be such a wet blanket I
guess. My idea of New Year’s Eve is watching the ball in Times Square on
the 10 o’clock news and then retiring.
Now it is time for you to start planning for the
Spring Samboree.
Our theme is “Happy Birthday New Mexico”,
celebrating 100 years of statehood.
Everything will revolve around that theme.
Many things have been done toward making
this a real birthday bash.
Our entertainment is looking very promising and we have some really good
shows for you. We have the “New Desert Harmony” singers who will be
entertaining on Wednesday and we are going to be their very first
performance of the season. I will be meeting their leader next week and
get more information on them.
We have also scheduled a return engagement of that
wonderful cowboy poet, Richard Nichols.
He will be doing a show for us on Thursday
evening and will also be doing something at fellowship on Sunday.
Many of you requested that we have him again
and he was very gracious in saying he would love to return.
Friday evening we will have a country swing band,
hats, noise makers, etc. and a real party, so bring your dancing duds
and shoes and lets make this a dress up affair.
Your staff will even be allowed to wear
“civilian clothing” so they can dress up right along with you. It will
be fun!
We have seminars for RV maintenance from cleaning
different areas, to new ideas for your holding tanks.
Another seminar will be on how to keep a
journal and another on the basics of starting your genealogy research
with hints on how to continue that research both online and in the
library (public or LDS).
There will be at least one craft offered and
perhaps two or three.
The Veterans For Fun chapter has requested time to
teach you a new card game called Polish Poker.
We will have a learning session one day and
then will play the actual game on another day.
Should be fun for you games players.
Mesilla Valley Sams has offered to fix a breakfast,
(menu undecided at this time) and Zia Roamers will be doing a dinner.
That menu is also not firmed up at this time.
Of course, there will be the obligatory
donuts and coffee every morning (except for breakfast day) and I am sure
that none of us are going to go hungry during this Samboree. We have
never done so to date and it is too late for that to happen this time.
Don’t forget that The Rally is going to be in
Phoenix this year in March. I believe early-bird parking is March 20.
I will be there as the Region 2 Director’s
meeting will be held there.
Check it all out online at
